PSRIG was hired to supply two sizeable truss grids to suspend 2×24 custom-made lighting columns for the new atrium lighting system in the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Gothenburg. The innovative and spectacular art installation offers an exciting mix of new technology and natural light. Data from natural phenomena generate the complex compositions of colours, speed, movement and intensity of the lights.

As the grid structures were to be suspended above the guests on multiple chain hoists, monitoring the loads on each motor point was vital for safety. The new handheld advanced unit from BroadWeigh was the perfect tool for the job as this gave the installation crew of the lighting columns a way to monitor the loads on each chain hoist and the total applied load. The configuration options of the handset were ideal for this application as it allowed us to program it perfectly for the client’s needs.

We set up 1 group with 8 load cells. The load cells were set with an individual overload and the group with a total load and overload. The benefit of the handheld system is that it gives the user a quick and easy overview of the situation with the push of a button. This helped us to make the right decision regarding changing to a fixed installation in one of the halls.
